From Pastor Pat Kriss

As I sit here like the rest of you, sequestered inside a safe home and with three of my favorite creatures (Spirit the dog, Nessie the cat and Gary the husband), I feel particularly blessed. We have food; we have more books than anyone could read in ten lifetimes. I have communications links by computer and phone. And most of all, I have church.

By now you may realize even more that Church is not a building. It is the people who care for and call one another part of a spiritual family. This is why Church is where the people are, even if they are located remotely from one another. We’ve been able, mostly successfully, to link up together to worship for two Sundays and, as our skill set with audio and Zoom improve, it will get better. We even held a very successful Bible Study on line on Monday! This Sunday we hope to have Nancy Wildman joining us to sing for us during our half hour service. It’s all a learning curve that keeps getting improved all the time as we deal with this crisis. And now Miss Cindy is including some coloring pages and a puzzle for our kids to do whenever they want.

The thing about crises is they often reveal to us what’s important in life and what’s not. Really, how important is it that our vacation may be cancelled or move later -- as long as the people we love are around to go with us? How serious is it that we might not be wearing our Easter outfit on Easter, but a little bit later? And at this stage when “cabin fever” is setting in and kids and adults long for the pattern of their usual routine, have we thought about our homeless community members for whom the shelter has closed down? The good news is that the City of Danbury has opened the War Memorial to take these individuals and shelter them for the duration. Our cabin fever seems so miniscule compared to the prospect of having no home at all.

How to Join Sunday's Online Service

Finally, for any of you who are having trouble signing on to our streaming Sunday service on Zoom at 10, Greg Pings, our council member and resident techie, has this advice:

Open this link to join our service. If this is your first time using Zoom, you may be prompted to download a small file. Please accept the download and follow any prompts for installation. This should not take too long.

If you see a spinning circle for more than 30 seconds, it may mean that Zoom’s network is overwhelmed. Close your web browser and repeat the steps above.

When you connect, click either the "Computer Audio" or "Phone Call" tab, then follow the instructions. The “Phone Call” tab provides a better audio connection while you view the service.

You use only your phone instead. You will be able to listen to the service on your phone, but you will not see the visuals. That’s OK. Dial one of the numbers below. When prompted for a meeting ID, enter 516-738-953#.

Telephone Numbers for Zoom

The service will be posted on our Facebook page a few hours afterwards. Go to www.facebook.com/DanburyChurch.

Please realize that all of you are in my prayers and can reach me whenever you want to talk. Blessings - Pastor Pat Kriss
