This Sunday: Rev. Frank Basler, preaching
“What, Me Worry?”
Those of you who are old enough to remember Mad Magazine may recall Alfred E Neuman, the gap-toothed kid who never worries. Two weeks ago Pat preached on the story of Mary and Martha and read a passage in which Jesus says, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things,” (She’s been complaining that Mary isn’t helping prepare dinner.). Each of us has times when we worry. This Sunday we’ll practice a brief meditation you can use when your anxieties are too distracting.
From Reverend Pat Kriss
I will be on vacation starting July 25, returning for our Sunday Service on August 11. During that time, if you have any urgent needs for pastoral care or hospital visitation, please call the office who will have one of our deacons contact you.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Our year-end Picnic and Vespers service will be held at the home of Gary and Janet Falkenthal on Sunday, August 25, starting at 4 PM. Thank you, Falkenthals!!
As usual, this event takes the place of our morning service - we will meet instead in the afternoon.
Mary Ann Holley will setup a sign-up for appetizers and desserts. In addition, we will need volunteers to help set up chairs etc. for the picnic, while our Sexton Tim Koch continues to heal. If you have a generous heart, let us know you will be willing to help with set-up.
From Jim Moriarty, Music Director
“Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence.” – Robert Fripp
I need to thank Heidi for both her lovely solo this past Sunday and leading the congregation in the singing of the hymns. This Sunday, August 4th, I am pleased to bring back The Meeting House Quartet. The four men sang last month, and will be presenting two new songs. The following Sunday, August 11th, Howard Rovics and Cheryl Hill will be providing the music for the service. I will be away at a conference during that week. It’s Summertime, Summertime sum, sum, summertime...” Hope your summer is noteworthy! Jim Moriarty

“Faith and Foam”
(Next session tba) at Three Brothers Diner in Danbury, starting at 6pm (242 White Street). If you haven’t heard of these kinds of meet-ups, they have become very popular for churches to run in communities all over the country. The intention behind the meet-ups is this: For many people because of work or other commitments, going to a house of worship on the weekend just doesn’t fit with the way their lives unfold. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t have a spiritual life, or, for that matter, that they don’t have questions or opinions they’d like to share about faith and religion. It’s the informal kind of discussion that lends itself to a brew or a drink among friends after work.
