(Updated January 30, 2023)
First Church strongly supoorts outreach missions serving the neediest in our community -- those without homes. These days, with so many people who are one paycheck away from disaster, decent homeless shelters are needed now more than ever.
Previously, in cooperation with the Dorothy Day Hospitality House, our basement served as an overflow shelter. This shelter was closed as a result of the 2020 COVID pandemic. Fortunately, alternate temporary housing support programs were established by the City of Danbury. These arrangements continue today.
Serving the Homeless is a Shared Responsibility
Housing support for Danbury's homeless people is a shared responsibility with several other churches, synagogues and social service agencies. This practice makes clear to all who encounter these wonderful people, that God is at work everday in our community. People who have lost their homes need to know this simple fact in order to regain the faith and strength needed to get back on their feet.
