Homeless Shelter

We continue our mission by serving the neediest in our community – those without homes.  These days, with so many people one paycheck away from disaster, decent homeless shelters are needed more than ever.

Our shelter is an “overflow” shelter taking people directed to us from the Dorothy Day Hospitality House, which has been in operation since 1982.  Dorothy Day has room for only 16 guests, so we have to open whenever the temperature goes below freezing.  We have beds for 16and volunteers serve up hot coffee.  Donated warm clothing, toiletries, and other essentials are also available.

We share the responsibility for working at the shelter with several other churches and synagogues in our area – a practice that makes clear to all who encounter these wonderful people that God is at work everyday in our community.  People who have lost their homes need to know this simple fact in order to regain the faith and strength needed to get back on their feet.

Please help us to continue to serve our community by volunteering for one or two nights during the winter months.  Women are always paired with a man and you'll be out early enough to get to work.  You may not get much sleep but you will feel great in the morning!
